Julia Nobis modelling for the Yeojin Bae 'Don't Look Back' Lookbook

The collection featured above entitled, 'Don't Look Back' by Australian designer Yeojin Bae was the stand-out show at the 2011 Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. It has taken me a while to get around to posting on an Australian designer again mainly because the quality of design, cut and fabric has been horrific. Yeojin Bae is one of few shining lights in the Australian fashion industry and I would place her among the likes of Dion Lee. This collection is stunning. It really doesn't need any explanation because the elegance, sexiness and beauty speaks for itself. What a refreshing thing it is to see pieces constructed to such a high (top European) standard. Julia Nobis was a perfect casting choice for this collection as she exudes the understated mood of the pieces and is proving herself to be a truly talented runway and photographic model in the international scene. Many congratulations to Yeojin Bae, I can't wait to see the collection in stores.

Kind thanks to the brilliant Australian photographer Lucas Dawson whose work is featured on this page.

Damn, Derek Lam has really excelled himself with his Resort 2012 collection. It is absolutely stunning. The combination of bright and earthy colours and tones with ethnic tribal prints and an athletic cut is genius. And Patricia van der Vliet was the perfect casting choice to model this collection. I am at a loss for anything else to say except that I am very grateful that Derek Lam has delivered such a strong and standout collection for Resort 2012.

Diane von Furstenburg Resort 2012

This Resort 2012 collection by Diane von Furstenburg is another standout this season and what a relief it is to see such brilliant, vibrant and colours and prints gracing the runway. In a similar style to Jil Sander and Proenza Schouler, this collection has combined the best of both worlds, a sporty and sexy cut with a  bold combination of colours. This is one of the best collections of Resort 2012 and I commend von Furstenburg for refreshing the fashion landscape with the pieces above.

Marc Jacobs Resort 2012

I really wasn't that impressed by Marc Jacobs' collection this Resort 2012. There were quite a few different prints included but it didn't seem to make it any less ordinary or plain. It was all just quite aesthetically uninspiring. Of course, the pieces above would work well as a simple and youthful addition to any wardrobe and they are definitely worth highlighting for their beauty. But, the rest of the collection I believe will not be as successful - the price tag, I predict, shall not match the quality of design and awkward colour combinations.

Burberry Prorsum Resort 2012 Menswear

There were a few stand-out pieces in this Resort 2012 collection, Burberry never fail to offer something new, be it new prints, coat material combinations or trend offerings. I was happy enough with this collection when I found the above pieces. The others I found to be merely a recycling of the Burberry signature look and not quite as special and unique as these pieces. Good work.

Bottega Veneta Resort 2012

These particular pieces in the Bottega Veneta Resort 2012 collection were the only ones that stood out to me as being particularly well-designed, attractive, complementary in colour and cut and unique. You can make your own judgement of course but in my opinion there was far too much beige, cream and light brown in his colour palette. And when Tomas Maier did branch out the colours clashed and were a tad too garish for my tastes. Take a look at the pieces that didn't make the cut here.

I wasn't that impressed by Karl's offering in his Resort 2012 collection. I love the runway and the venue but the clothes, the design, just wasn't something I'd write home about. They were classic, they all had a Chanel air about them, but this is certainly not a stand-out, especially compared to his brilliant Resort 2011 collection. Freja Beha Erichsen was missing on Lagerfeld's runway for this show and that was a surprise but I'm betting, considering her prolific photographic output, that she had a prior job booked.
