Sasha Pivovarova for Free People April 2011

There's no question about it, Russian model Sasha Pivovarova has IT. She's one of the few models who constantly surprises and I am sure will be a very sought after model for years to come. Why? She has a great depth in the emotions and feelings she can convey, in the above photos she is playful, vulnerable, strong, whimsical and serious. But most of all, in her photographic work (as well as runway) you can always tell that she is highly focussed in the moment, hence her presence is piercing and compelling. I would defy you to find any one of her editorials boring or commercial, they are artistic in a large part due to the model herself. As many of you would know, Pivovarova enjoys drawing and painting in her spare time and it so happens that she was studying Art History before she became a model in 2005. Sasha joins this blog's Model Muse cast as one of the strongest and most highly respected members.
