I'm not very keen on Christopher Bailey's latest collection for Burberry Prorsum. It was full of long, high-waisted skirts, wide belts tied at the waist, woollen sweaters, puffer jackets... Really it just looked like a modern version of Little House on the Prairie. It wasn't physically very liberating for women having to move in heavy and cumbersome full skirts, nor is it now. I have chosen the pieces that were modern and progressive in design and show respect for any busy female who, in spring, would like to have her clothes complement and support her movements. I hope Bailey can leave the 19th century and return to the 21st next season.

  1. It is a pity that a few bad belts and skirts spoiled this collection.

While I do not disagree with your review, I think there was some really great use of colour here. Particularly striking were the great contrasts featured in shots above and lovely pastels throughout the collection. It's rare, tasteful and deserves some credit.

Don't blame Burberry for their puffer jackets either. Done-to-death puffers are what Burberry Prosum are all about and Europeans seem to love them (but I'm still am yet to figure out why). Take it or leave it.

    Truly ugly shoes, however!

I would like to hear your thoughts on some really elegant new stuff from Valentino, Roland Mouret and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac.
    Happy reviewing

  2. Thanks for your comments. I agree, the colour contrasts, particularly the blue and orange skirt of which the same pattern was seen in other pieces - they were very attractive and that is why I couldn't ignore the stunning parts of this collection.

I certainly don't blame Burberry for the puffer-jackets. It is an especially French fascination I have never understood. You wouldn't be caught dead in one in Australia.

Agreed on the shoes and I'll also add the hats to the ugly basket.

I will be happy to cover those shows. They're at the end of my long to-do list.

    Thanks for reading.
